Browsers are configured so that when you type in a URL or domain name, the address will be converted to an internet ip address address that is routed over the internet to reach the computer that hosts the web-site.

Web sites are the collection of html pages that are stored on a web server server.  The server is a part of a network of computers on the internet or World Wide Web that allows users of the internet to reach your site anywhere in the world at anytime.
